My reading list

I am reading "Harry's War" about the war diaries of Harry Drinkwater edited by Jon Cooksey and David Griffiths
Born in Stratford on Avon in 1889, Harry went to King Edward Grammar School in the town. Playing full back for the second team he was described as "This diminuative full-back should without doubt br heard of s good deal in the distant future"

When he first tried to join the army he was told he was too short. He perservered and went to Birmingham to join the Birmingham 'Pals'
He became Private 161 in 2 platoon A Company 2nd City Battalion which became the 15th Royal Warwickshire Regiment.

He was sent to Sutton Park for training and billeted with Thomas Blackband on Jockey Road

I will dip into this book over time to outline the monotony of war on a day to day basis- and the mud!
